대전감옥소 / Daejeon Prison
대전감옥은 내게 특별한 인연의 장소이다. 집에서 멀지 않은 거리에 위치 했었으나 어렴풋이 소문만 들었고 스쳐 지나가기만 하다가 마을 전시기획에 참여하게 되면서 이전하고 남아있는 망루와 우물을 찾아가게 되었다. 이후 대전시 시립박물관에서 기획한 전시에서 3m x 3m의 신문지로 대전감옥을 제작하게 되었다. 신문지는 사회를 함축적으로 담고 있는데 이를 해체하고 다시 압축하여 작은 건물의 벽이 되었다.
이번 마인크래프트 작업에서는 이전 전시에서는 담지 못한 내부를 체험할 수 있는 기회를 가질 수 있게 되어 너무 반가운 작업이었다. 처음 접해보는 마인크래프트 작업이지만 신문지로 벽돌 블록 하나하나를 만들었던 작업과 연결되어 작업이 가상 속에서 업그레이드 되는 기회가 되었다. 또한 많은 사람들이 한국 근대기 많은 사건들이 일어난 공간을 다니며 아픈 역사를 되짚어 보는 계기가 되길 바란다.
I have a special memory with Daejeon Prison. It was not far from the home, but I just heard hazy rumors about it and passed by. Later, when I took part in the preparation of the village display, I went to see the watchtower and well that had survived from the relocation. Later, she created a prison in Daejeon using 3m × 3m newspaper for an exhibition organized by the Daejeon Municipal Museum. Newspapers inherently contain society, which was broken down and then compressed once more to produce a little building's wall. I was happy to get the chance to see the inside in this Minecraft piece as it was absent from other displays. It is a Minecraft task that I have never seen before, but since it was related to the task of constructing each brick block out of newspaper, it presented a chance to improve the task in the virtual world. Additionally, I hope that many people will go to the location where many significant events in Korea's modern history took place, giving them a chance to reflect on the difficult past.

정문안에 들어가서 앞마당 벽을 왼쪽부터 둘러보고 가운데 지도 맵 눕혀진거 보고 가운데 청사로 들어간다. 가운데 건물 들어가서 뒤쪽 계단으로 올라가면 홀을 볼 수 있다. 홀을 둘러본 뒤 왼쪽 감옥을 보고 나온 후 우물로 향한다. 우물로 내려가면 지하 공간이 나오는데, 검은 기둥이 있는 계단으로 올라오면 뒷마당으로 나올 수 있다. 뒷 마당 중앙에 벽돌들 쌓아둔 곳 뒷면에 벽돌작업이 있다. 벽돌은 재소자들이 만들어서 실제 집짓는데 많이 사용되었다고 한다. 마치 마인크래프트의 벽돌처럼.
Look around the front yard wall from the left as you approach the main gate, view the map in the center, and proceed into the government building. To view the hall, enter the building from the center and ascend the stairs at the rear. Take a glance around the hallway, then turn to your left and look at the prison before leaving to go to the well. You may enter a subterranean area by going down the well, and you can access the backyard by climbing the stairs with the black pillars. The midst of the rear yard's mound of bricks has brickwork in the back. It is said that prisoners built the bricks that were extensively utilized to construct houses. Just like bricks in Minecraft.

여상희는 사회에서 잊혀져가는 대상들에 관심을 가지고 답사와 아카이브 등을 하는 설치미술작가이다. 버려지는 쓰레기들을 수집하며 잊혀져가는 과거의 소중한 물건들이나 가구들을 수집하여 전시하기도 한다. 하루 만에 버려지는 신문지를 물에 풀어 해체하고 다시 응축시켜 종이나 벽돌 비석 등을 만들기도 하고 집을 만들어 전시하기도 한다. 집들 만드는 작업 중에서 재개발로 인해 사라지는 마을을 오랜 시간 오가며 기록과 수집을 하며 사라지는 집들을 다시 만드는 작업들을 해왔다. 또 잊혀져가는 한국 근대기 가슴 아픈 역사가 있는 곳의 이야기를 담기도 한다. 제주 4.3, 보도연맹, 포로수용소 등의 작업도 해왔는데 작가가 살고 있던 곳 인근에 위치했던 대전교도소(일제강점기 대전감옥소, 1919)를 일제 강점기 설계도면을 보고 신문지로 만들어내기도 했다. 이같이 묻혀 있는 역사와 증언을 발굴하거나 버려지고 잊혀 지는 것들을 수집하여 작품 전시로 풀어내면서 사회의 관심을 이끌어 내고자 하는데 목표를 두고 작업하고 있다.
Sanghee Yeo is an installation artist who goes on field excursions and searches archives for objects that are being forgotten in society. She gathers trash and puts on exhibit priceless antiques and furnishings that are being left behind. In order to create paper or brick tombstones, houses, or other structures, she dissolves newspapers that would be thrown away in a single day in water, dissolves them, and then condenses them once more. She has spent a lot of time recording and gathering information in villages that have been disappearing as a result of redevelopment, and she is currently working to recreate the vanished town. She also tells the story of a location in modern-day Korea that has a tragic past but is now being forgotten. Additionally, she has contributed to the Bodo Federation, Jeju 4.3, and prisoner of war camps. She also produced newspapers based on the design drawings from the Japanese colonial period for the nearby Daejeon Prison (Daejeon Prison during the Japanese Colonial Period, 1919). She collects abandoned and neglected artifacts and displays them as part of her work exhibits in an effort to draw the public's attention to buried history and testimony.
