행성간 빛 코드 Interplanetary Light Code
“Interplanetary Light Code / 행성간 빛 코드”는 IVAAIU City에 의해 시작된 실험적 언어 시스템이자 뉴 미디어 랜드 아트 프로젝트이다. 프로젝트는 텍스트 문자를 표준화된 물리적 구조 구성요소와 라이트 시퀀스로 부호화한 것이다. 광선 구조의 언어 시스템은 우주여행 중 행성 간 통신을 위한 장치로 사용될 것이며, 인간이 지구에서 멀리 떨어져 있거나 다른 행성에 있더라도 이 시스템을 통해 시각적으로 메시지를 받을 수 있도록 설정하였다. 대지를 뒤덮은 거대한 메시지들은 인류의 새로운 탐험과 교류를 돕는다. 평화예술제, 임진각에 설치된 모델 3은 장소의 특수성을 반영하여 평화의 메시지가 상공뿐 아니라 땅에도 동시에 전달되도록 재구성하였다. 방문객들은 3개의 안테나 구조물을 통해 하늘과 땅에 빛의 형태로 부호화된 평화의 메시지를 전송할 수 있다. 상대적으로 피상적이고 여러 가지로 해석할 수 있는 이야기인 ‘평화’를 직관적인 빛의 신호로 대체하여 상호 간의 소통을 유도한다. 작가는 하늘과 땅, 혹은 누군가에게 전달되는 평화의 메시지가 대상의 모호함에서 비롯된 불특정 다수와 소통하고 공유하는 것에 주목한다.
Interplanetary Light Code is an experimental language system and new media land art project initiated by IVAAIU City. This project is to encode text characters into standardised physical structure compositions and light sequences. This light structure language system will be used as a device for interplanetary communication during space travel, and is configured so that human beings can receive messages visually through this system even if they are located far from the surface of the Earth or other planets. Huge messages covered on the land help new exploration and the future of mankind. Reflecting the specificity of the place, Model 3 installed at the Imjingak Pavilion through Peace Arts Festival has been reconstructed to make peace messages cross the atmosphere as well as the land at the same time. The visitors are able to transmit peace messages encoded in the form of light to the sky and the earth through the three antenna structures. The rather superficial and ambiguous story of ‘peace’ is replaced with an intuitive lighting signal to induce mutual communication. The artist points out that the peace message delivered to the sky and the earth, or to someone is a communication to be shared together with an unspecified number of people, arising from the ambiguity of the target.

마인크래프트 상의 작품 구현
BPAW2에서 작품구현 포인트
BPAW2에서는 프로젝트에 사용된 안테나의 실제 물리적 모델을 마인크래프트의 시스템 안에 가상으로 재구성하였다. 안테나의 여섯 날개에 BEYOND라는 메시지가 부호화되어 입력되어 있다. 현실에서는 상공의 기체 안에 있지 않은 이상 직접 읽기 힘든 빛의 메시지를 물리적 제약이 없는 가상의 환경에서는 직접 읽어볼 수 있도록 구성하였다. 마인크래프트의 텔레포트 기능을 통해 상공에 부유중인 공간으로 이동하여 메시지를 읽을 수 있다.

IVAAIU City는 서울과 도쿄를 베이스로 활동하는 뉴미디어 크리에이터스 그룹이다. 2013년 팀 디렉터인 이동욱이 작성한 [IVAAIU Urban Instrument: Hyper-Complex Civic Monument]라는 동명의 도시계획 논문에서 시작되어 Idea – Visual – Audio – Architecture – Infrastructure – Urbanism 이라는 서로 다른 6개의 미디어를 통합적으로 연계하여 만드는 미래 도시 디자인을 지향점으로 하여 프로젝트들을 진행해오고 있다. 뉴미디어 인스톨레이션, 오디오-비주얼 퍼포먼스, 뉴스트럭쳐 시스템 디자인, 퓨처 시티 플랜 등 다양한 영역의 작업들을 본인들만의 구성으로 만들어오고 있다. 현재 도시계획가/건축가/음악가 이동욱, 시각예술가/연출가 신양호, 뉴미디어 아키텍트 박성수, 건축가 소한철, 사운드 디자이너 히로토 타케우치Hiroto Takeuchi, 5인의 다양한 장르의 아티스트/디자이너들이 모여서 복합장르 작업들을 통해 동시대의 테크놀로지와 예술적 이상이 모여서 만들어지는 새로운 도시에 대한 작업들을 이어오고 있다.

IVAAIU City is a new media creator group based in Seoul and Tokyo. The idea of this group was developed in 2013 from the thesis of the same title, [IVAAIU Urban Instrument: Hyper-Complex Civic Monument], written by Donguk Lee, the director of the group. The group engages in projects for designing future cities by integrating six different media (Idea – Visual – Audio – Architecture – Infrastructure – Urbanism). The group has been working on various formats, including new media installations, audio-visual performances, new structural system designs, and future city planning. Currently, IVAAIU City is composed of five artists/designers from various genres, including Donguk Lee, a city planner/architect/musician; Yangho Shin, a visual artist/stage director; Sungsu Park, a new media architect; Hancheol So, an architect; and Hiroto Takeuchi, a sound designer. The group aims to align contemporary technologies and artistic ideals to create a new kind of urbanism through interdisciplinary projects.
